Self-esteem is a core identity issue, essential to personal validation and our ability to experience joy. Once achieved, it comes from the inside out. But it has being tortured from the outside in. A women with low self esteem always produce negative feelings about herself. These negative messages are the result of the culture and relationship around her. These relationships always wants to drag the women to look downwards in relation to youth, beauty and thinness.

There are many women magazines which has being program to focus all their efforts on women’s appearance. Many girls, by age 12, sacrifices all their enjoyable eatables to prevent from gaining weight. They become too conscious about their diets. There are many ads related to cosmetic surgery, to repair our ageing bodies, as if the natural process of ageing bodies is an accident or a disease. Yet, with all these efforts they still never feel they are good enough.

Low self esteem results in depression and anxiety. In the workplace, women with low self-esteem tend to be self-depreciating, to minimize their accomplishments, or let others take credit for their work. They never move up. Finally, with friends, they are unable to say no. They end up doing favors they don’t want to do, or have any time for. They end up going where they don’t want to go, with people they don’t want to go with!

Relationships also affects due to low self esteem. Their needs are not met by their partner because they feel like they don’t deserve to have them met, or are uncomfortable asking. Their relationships with children can suffer if they are unable to discipline effectively, set limits, or demand the respect they deserve. Do you suffer from low self esteem? Do you constantly find yourself avoiding social situations? Do you think of yourself as ugly, stupid or worthless? If so, then you need a little self esteem tune up. Low self esteem generally comes from your negative thinking. Turning your self esteem isn’t a difficult task to do but it takes time and patience.

  • Firstly, you have to look deep inside of yourself. Often times, people have low self esteem because of something that happened to them when they were younger. Maybe they got teased in school and from then on they avoided social situations because they were afraid of being mocked or teased. Or, maybe someone told them they were a failure when they were younger and they continue this thinking to this day. If it turns out that it was someone from your past that made you feel that way, they were probably doing it because they were jealous of you. So it’s time to break out of the habit of thinking negatively so that you can turn your low self esteem around.
  • Secondly you should find out why you feel the way you do. If you think back to your childhood you discover that there are couple of situations which make you feel the way you do today. So close your eyes and place yourself in that situation again. This may cause a little discomfort or anxiety. Once you are in that situation turn to the person in your mind who caused you to have low self esteem and tell them that you’re not going to take it any more. Tell them all your accomplishments, and tell them why you feel you are worth something. You may have to repeat this exercise several times till it works.
  • The third step is to think postively. Make a list of all the negative things and turn them into positives. Repeat the positives every day until they become a part of you. Then, see your low self esteem dissolve to make way for the new, more confident you.
